Author Unknown

Just up the road from my home is a field, with two horses in it.

From a distance, each horse looks like any other horse.
But if you stop your car, or are walking by, you will notice something quite amazing….

Looking into the eyes of one horse will disclose that he is blind.
His owner has chosen not to have him put down, but has made a good home for him.

This alone is amazing.

If you stand nearby and listen, you will hear the sound of a bell.
Looking around for the source of the sound, you will see that it comes from the smaller horse in the field.

Attached to the horse’s halter is a small bell.
It lets the blind friend know where the other horse is, so he can follow.

As you stand and watch these two friends,
You’ll see that the horse with the bell is always checking on the blind horse,
And that the blind horse will listen for the bell and then slowly walk
To where the other horse is,
Trusting that he will not be led astray.

When the horse with the bell returns
To the shelter of the barn each evening,
It stops occasionally and looks back,
Making sure that the blind friend isn’t too far behind to hear the bell.

Like the owners of these two horses,
God does not throw us away just because we are not perfect
Or because we have problems or challenges.

He watches over us and even brings others into our lives
To help us when we are in need..

Sometimes we are the blind horse
Being guided by the little ringing bell of those who God places in our lives.

Other times we are the guide horse, helping others to find their way….

Good friends are like that…
You may not always see them, but you know they are always there..

Please listen for my bell and I’ll listen for yours.

And remember…

Be kinder than necessary-
Everyone you meet is fighting
Some kind of battle.

Live simply,
Love generously,
Care deeply,
Speak kindly…….

And leave the rest to God!

FOR WE WALK BY FAITH AND NOT BY SIGHT!

Author Unknown wanted to pass it on…

Horse Water Tank Tips

Well it is 30 degrees this morning and looks like it going to get colder. I topped off the horse water tanks yesterday as it is suppose to get cold and maybe snow this weekend. Two weeks ago I got caught flat footed in cold weather with frozen hoses, luckily I had filled the horse water tanks before it froze up for a week. the ideal setup would be to have all the water lines buried with frost free faucets, but that is not always possible. Digging underground water lines can be almost impossible if you are going to areas where there are buried electrical lines other water lines and digging up a roadbed has never been a good idea. The answer of course is more water hoses, not a good answer but it gets the job done most the year except when the weather turns cold.

With the water tanks full I usually have enough water to keep the horses going for a week, I have various fields with anywhere from 4 to 8 horses in the field. So some have bigger water tanks and others, when the temperature drops ice really builds up fast so chopping through the eyes is a mandatory duty every single day. Over the course of a week they get to be more ice in the tank than water and eventually they will become useless. I have asked her water tanks that I keep empty, when needed I can fill them with fresh water without the ice cubes. I have alleyways or lanes if you will, that I can open up and let the horses come up to the barn for water too.

Remember in cold weather you you often should be feeding your horses more hay, which is like eating shredded wheat, your mouth is pretty dry and hay absorbs a lot more moisture out of the horses digestive system, so lots of clean water is a must. Never make it difficult for your horse to go for water, I think you increase the likely-hood of colic. I spent 19 years as a farrier traveling around to different horse farms, I ran a lot I will water for a lot of horses because people had neglected to fill water tanks, here’s a clue for you, if the horses is beating on the water tank with his front foot, look in the tank it it probably is empty.

Don Dodge of California reining horse fame, never trusted automatic water systems, he wanted to know exactly how much each horse was drinking, and monitored it closely, now that’s caring about your horse. I believe that having the right size tank for your horses is important, too small and they’ll run out of water, too big in the water gets stagnant, freshwater without the pond scum and debris is what were after. I have tanks that vary in size from 25 gallons up to 300 gallons, I like the newer plastic Tupperware like water tanks, because they are easy to move, tip over and clean out on a regular basis. I used to use old bathtubs, old steel boilers cut in half, but horses just seemed to injure themselves on any things metal, not to mention the light weight and portability.

I don’t care if you want to use a bucket you just better be willing to put in the time to check it to three times a day because your horses going to run our water if you don’t. Letting livestock drink out of natural waterways is getting to illegal at least in my state, I try not to force my horses to drink out of stagnant water sources, sometimes you can not keep them away from little ponds in the field, just don’t let that be their only source of water.
